Characters ~ Fledglings

Of all the prototypes, the sapiens born to women of the forest were the closest to their intention.”
The Elders of Norwyk
Astra (star) is the busybody who knows everyone in the village. She raised Luken, his grandmere.
Mereg (edge, border, margin) is Astra’s husband and builder of some of the original huts.
Etu (sunny) is Astra’s brother who eats too many of her misshapen cakes.
Pylor (gatekeeper, pillar) is a fisherman like his son Onkos, he is Enek’s uncle.
The Bakers are Wenda and Hasa’s uncle and aunt.
The Middling Norwyk Travelers
Luken (bringer of light) is a woodsman and musician. His grandmere Astra regrets showing him how to ferment the vine fruit. Both he and El are astonished that he can receive her communication.
Enek (obtain, dedicated) is a toolmaker and one of Telek’s childhood rivals. He is muscular and clean shaven, revealing his dimples, but only on the rare occasions he smiles. Onkos is his cousin.
Ty (arrow, battler) is Enek’s wife and has three sisters who all married farmers. They have numerous children but she has none.
Telek (hit, push) is a builder who is anxious to lead the journey, despite others’ reservations about his motives.
Verit (truth) is Telek’s wife and weaver. Her ability to perceive the Sakrosian telepathic communication surprises El. She is one of the three ‘receivers’ that El sends images to convey their path.
Yana (god is gracious) is Verit’s sister, who works with healing herbs and has learned archery from Enek.
Velar (keep watch) is a tall, burly hunter. At thirty-eight he is the oldest of the travelers who prefers to be alone, although he is the mediator for many conflicts.
Raf (to rage, furious) is a farmer with a nickname of Red because of his hair. His childhood resentment has festered into a dominion argument with Telek.
Onkos (barbed hook) is a fisherman, Pylor’s son and Enek’s cousin.
Iwar (ward, guardian) is a mapmaker, Nila’s husband and Deik’s father.
Nila (champion) prepares hides for her husband’s maps and sews others into tunics. She is an overprotective mother to Deik.
Ghel (to shine, bright color) is the “blondie” woodsman and Luken’s friend.
The Younger Norwyk Travelers
Wenda (wanderer) is eleven, the third receiver of El’s images and the most like a Sakrosian, except she does wander often. She learned to bake flat bread from her uncle.
Hasa (reaper, harvester, obtain) is Wenda’s fifteen year old brother who also learned to bake bread.
Deik (to show, predict) is Iwar and Nila’s son, and Telek’s minion. Ak gives him an amulet of direction for the journey.
The Four-legged Traveler
Guud is Luken’s dog who is the only one that seems to understand Behra’s language, and she gives him food so of course he likes that.
